Norfolk, Va. – On Tuesday, a man was arrested and charged with arson after fire crews were called out to a Norfolk apartment.

At around 5:30 a.m., crews went to the 200 block of A View Avenue after calls came in about a fire there.

When they arrived, someone from the apartment met them in the front yard and led them to a fire escape on the top level.

A small charcoal grill was on fire and flames had extended into the siding and door frame of the apartment building.

The person says the smoke woke him up. He went outside and found the fire inside of the grill when he opened the back door.

He put the fire out using a small fire extinguisher.

Officials ruled this fire an arson and arrested Shawn Scott hours later.

In addition to the arson charge, Scott is also facing charges for threat to burn and writing a threat to kill or do bodily harm.
