Newport News, Va. - A fugitive wanted in Hampton on murder charges was arrested after a standoff at a Newport News hotel this morning.
The Newport News police fugitive apprehension unit learned around 9am that Kwame Edwards was inside a specific room at the Extended Stay America on Hornsby Lane. In addition to the Hampton murder charge, Edwards was wanted in Newport News for assault on a family member, unauthorized use of a vehicle, brandishing and probation violation.
Police tactical units responded and after an hour and a half a woman left the room. Shortly afterward Edwards also left the room and surrendered to police.
No one was injured during the incident.
