Tugboat rescues person who fell from sailboat in the Chesapeake Bay

Posted

Hampton Roads, Va. – A tugboat rescued a person who fell from a sailboat in the Chesapeake Bay Saturday afternoon.

Around 4:30pm the Coast Guard received a call of an overdue 12-foot sailboat that was part of a group planning to sail from Grandview Beach to Thimble Shoal Lighthouse and back again.

That call was almost immediately followed by another report of a person clinging to the side of a sailing vessel.

The Coast Guard sent out an urgent broadcast and dispatched a rescue boat to the scene.

When the rescue boat arrived they found the tug James Williams had heard the broadcast and already recovered the person from the water.
