Midtown Tunnel reopens after crash involving HRT bus

The Midtown Tunnel has reopened after a crash involving an HRT bus.

The Route 44  bus was exiting the tunnel heading to Norfolk and was sideswiped by a tractor trailer entering the tunnel in the opposite direction, according to HRT Spokesperson Tom Holden

The truck broke the mirror of the bus and the driver side window. No injuries were reported.

The bus pulled into Sentara after the accident, and HRT brought a replacement bus to finish the route while the damaged bus was taken for repairs.

There is no description of the tractor trailer.

Holden says this happens often in the Midtown Tunnel, and buses lose “a lot of mirrors” due to incidents such as this.
