UPDATE: Virginia Beach Police say the 11-year-old girl reported missing on Wednesday evening has returned home safely on her own. 

Officer Tonya Borman with the VBPD confirms that Empress-Aziza Makonnen returned home while detectives were at her residence. 

No additional information was immediately available. 


Virginia Beach, Va. – An 11-year-old girl has been reported missing in Virginia Beach.

The Virginia Beach Police Department’s Missing Persons Unit is asking the public’s assistance in locating an 11-year-old girl who was last seen on Wednesday at approximately 4:40 p.m. in the 3200 block of Wimbledon Way.

There is concern for her safety and quick return.

11-year-old Empress-Aziza Makonnen voluntarily left her home, police say.

She is described as a black female with a dark complexion, dark brown hair, and brown eyes.

Empress-Aziza is 5’2” tall and weighs approximately 110 pounds.

She has long dark hair braided down the left side of her head.

She was last seen wearing a gray shirt with heart shaped flowers on it, Capri jeans, and zebra Skechers shoes, police say.

Family members and known friends have been contacted, but no additional information is available.

She is known to frequent the Pecan Gardens and Scarborough Square areas of Virginia Beach.
