Virginia Beach, Va. - A local group is taking action to help young girls and women in the Hampton Roads community.

Sarah Hummel, Director of ShineGIRL, joins us today to talk about an event happening this weekend to benefit the program.

The ShineGIRL program is an initiative through WAVE City Care, and runs within the Virginia Beach Public School System during the school year.

The program helps bolster self-esteem among girls and young women. Saturday will be the group’s first 5K at Mt. Trashmore to raise funding for the program.
