Newport News, Va. – A Newport News man is facing numerous charges after an incident over the weekend, police tell NewsChannel 3.
On August 15, 2014, at approximately 10:20 p.m., officers saw an individual, later identified as 39-year-old James Diggs, riding a bike on the sidewalk without a light.
Diggs was wearing a mask and bandana over his face, police say.
Diggs failed to stop for the officers and began to accelerate on the bike. Officers then saw him throw an object onto the ground.
Diggs was apprehended and a loaded handgun was located by officers in the area where the object was thrown, police say.
Diggs was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, carrying a concealed weapon, assault on Law Enforcement, wearing a mask in public, reckless handling of a firearm, obstruction of justice, resisting arrest, riding a bike on a sidewalk, and riding a bike without a light at night.
