UPDATE: The Camden County Sheriff’s Office has reopened US 158 in Camden County. They say Piedmont Natural Gas Company will be working through the night to repair the line break.

The Camden County Sheriff has closed Highway US 158 between Upton Road and the intersection of US 158 and NC 343 due to a natural gas leak.

According to the CCSO, Ambrose Signs was installing a new sign near the Track 1 Restaurant/Hairways Salon/Vineyard Christian Church business strip when they hit a 4-inch main line around 10:00 a.m.

Piedmont Natural Gas Company is on scene to repair the line, but it will take several hours and traffic will be blocked until the gas line is capped.

Businesses in the strip have been evacuated.  The Precious Gifts Educational Center was also evacuated and the children were transferred to the Camden Courthouse for parents to get them.

Traffic is re-routed down Upton Road, Seymour Drive and NC 343 North.

Updates will be provided as they become available.
