Overnight shooting in Suffolk leaves 1 hospitalized

Suffolk Police are investigating a shooting overnight that left one man hospitalized.

According to police, the shooting occurred at approximately 1:53 a.m. in the 100 block of S. 5th Street in downtown Suffolk.

Police say they located the victim, 40-year-old Joe Bernard Saunders, lying on the floor inside the residence suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he has been reported as stable.

The investigation is ongoing and no additional details are available at this time.
