Coast Guard medevacs man near Hatteras Island

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Coast Guard medevaced a man Thursday from a tug boat approximately 10 miles southeast of Hatteras Inlet, according to a release from the U.S. Coast Guard.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Carolina in Wilmington received a report of a 30-year-old male experiencing chest pains and numbness aboard the 94-foot tug Gulf Coast at approximately 7:45 p.m.

Station Hatteras Inlet launched a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew. The crew arrived on scene and transferred the patient to the lifeboat.

The crew brought the man to Station Hatteras Inlet and placed him in the care of awaiting Dare County EMS, officials say. He was later flown to Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk via MedFlight.

He was reported to be in stable condition.
