Former Portsmouth youth minister sentenced for felonies involving sexual offenses with young girls

The former youth minister at Western Branch Baptist Church was sentenced to a serve four months of a suspended 10-year sentence for two felonies involving sexual offenses with girls involved in the church’s youth ministry program.

Brian M. Norris was arrested last November after one of the victims contacted Portsmouth Police to report the crimes. He pleaded guilty in May to two counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor while in a custodial relationship. The two offenses occurred between September 2012 and November 2013.

Norris was sentenced to five years in prison for each count. The judge suspended four years and 10 months on each count, leaving four months to serve. He also has a period of supervised probation upon his release.
