Suffolk Police say they responded to an accident involving nine vehicles at Portsmouth Boulevard/Route 58 around 5:00 p.m. Thursday evening.
Police say they received the initial call at 5:09 p.m. advising them of a minor chain-reaction accident involving six vehicles.
As a Suffolk Police unit was responding at 5:25 p.m., a van struck the cruiser from behind and then hit an 18-wheeler, increasing the number of vehicles involved to nine.
Suffolk Fire & Rescue provided medical assessments at the scene. Two people were taken via ambulance to Sentara Obici Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
A portion of the roadway was closed briefly while vehicles were moved. All traffic is now flowing normally.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
