Virginia Beach, Va. - A 10-year-old boy in Virginia Beach was injured Saturday night when he accidentally shot himself.
According to MPO Jimmy Cason, the boy was taken to a hospital with non life-threatening injuries. He has been treated and released.
The incident happened around 10 p.m. Saturday in the 5800 block of Echingham Dr.
Police say the handgun belonged to the boy's grandfather who had recently moved out of the house. The boy found it in a dresser.
His mother and uncle were home at the time the incident occurred. They were unaware that the gun was in the home.
The case is still being reviewed, but charges are not expected to be filed.
