Man charged with trying to choke wife in Newport News

Newport News, Va. – A man is now facing charges after police say he tried to choke his wife in Newport News.

On August 23, 2014, in the 300 block of Denbigh Blvd., Jonathan Banados got into an argument with his wife, a 20-year-old Newport News woman, while at their home.

Police say his wife attempted to walk into the home several times, and Banados blocked her escape. He knocked her to the ground and began to choke her before a family member intervened, police say. He then left the scene.

Banados was arrested on Monday, September 15 in the 100 block of Kerlin Road.
