UPDATE: Man killed in early morning accident on Shore Drive identified

UPDATE: The victim in this morning's crash has been identified as 19-year-old Benjamin Taylor Epps of Virginia Beach. 

Police say speed nor alcohol were factors in the crash. 

No charges will be filed. 

Virginia Beach, Va. - A man was hit by a car and killed on Shore Drive early Thursday morning, police tell NewsChannel 3.

It happened at 5:55 a.m. in the 2500 block of Shore Drive, near First Landing State Park.

Police initially believed the man was trying to cross the road, but he was actually in the middle of the eastbound lane at the time. Police say one car hit him, but several drivers stopped to help.

A Marine attached to the Marine Security Cooperation Group based at Joint Amphibious Base Little Creek/Fort Story was directly involved with the crash, according to the Marine Corps Forces Command.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident are being conducted by military and civil law enforcement authorities.
