UPDATE: Man arrested in Portsmouth pharmacy robberies

Portsmouth, Va. – Police have made an arrest in a Rite-Aid pharmacy robbery as well as a Walgreens pharmacy robbery in Portsmouth.

Police arrested 37-year-old Matthew T. Lyon of Portsmouth. Lyon was found in a home in the 5700 block of Hawthorne Lane and taken into custody by police.

Lyon is charged with two counts of robbery and one count of use of a firearm in the commission a felony.

The robberies happened on September 19 at the Rite-Aid Pharmacy and Walgreens Pharmacy, both located in the 5900 block of High Street W.

Police Dispatch received the 911 call at 8:48 a.m. on September 19. According to detectives, the suspect, Matthew T. Lyon, entered the businesses and went to the pharmacy. He then displayed a gun and demanded prescription drugs from the employees. The employees did what the suspect asked and he left the locations on foot, police say.

No one got hurt during the incidents.
