UPDATE: Two charged with murder, armed robbery after 82-year-old man is shot to death in Suffolk

UPDATE: Police have now made several arrests in a homicide that occurred Monday morning. They've arrested and charged Leon Jerome Hayes, 33, and Naomi Nichelle Lambert, 22. Both have been charged with 1st degree murder, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and attempted armed robbery. 

Police say thanks to the public, they were able to make these arrests. 

Suffolk, Va. - An 82-year-old man was shot to death in Suffolk early Monday morning.

Police say Donald Carter was found unresponsive in the 100 block of E. Washington Street and Franklin Street in downtown Suffolk. He had been shot in the lower torso.

Carter was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police say they are still investigating and they are following up on leads at this time.

No suspect information is available at this time.
