Suffolk, Va. - A Suffolk mother is facing additional charges after officials say she lost control of her SUV hurting herself and her son.
They say this happened back on July 25th. Susan Avery Murphy Norris was then charged with DUI and refusal to take a blood test.
She was arrested for the DUI and blood test refusal. After an investigation, the Commonwealth's Attorney added a child abuse charge.
According to court documents, when police got to the crash, they smelled a strong alcoholic odor coming from Murphy. The documents show she admitted to police she had a "culata" (tomato juice mixed with beer) that morning and then took a Vicodin at noon. Police say she also failed three field sobriety tests. The court documents say her child had a serious injury to the head and Murphy had cuts on her leg.
Murphy is expected to be in court for the felony Child Abuse charge on Tuesday.
