UPDATE: SWAT team arrests robbery suspect after tactical situation in Portsmouth

UPDATE: Right now the SWAT situation has ended. A suspect was taken into custody with incident. 

No one was hurt. 

Police say the person arrested was a suspect in two robberies last week in Portsmouth. 

Authorities do not have the name of the person right now but it will be released soon. 

They say the suspect robbed the Rite Aid and Walgreens in the 5900 High Street.

Portsmouth, Va. - Police are now on the scene of a tactical situation in a Portsmouth neighborhood.

Calls came in about the situation at around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.

They say there is a suspicious situation going on in the 5700 block of Hawthorne Lane. This is in the Edgefield neighborhood in the Churchland area. The SWAT team is now on the scene of what they are calling a tactical situation.

Right now several roads are blocked off including River Shore Road, Barberry Lane, Hedgerow Lane, Hawthorne Lane, and Birch Road.

Due to the situation, police have not released many details right now.

The middle and high schools in that area were released when the situation was happening so they were not affected. Churchland Primary School, which is nearby, had a delayed dismissal for walkers only. Parents had to pick up the children and they were rerouted though the neighborhoods.
