Man accused in deadly stabbing in parking lot of Newport News elementary school arrested

UPDATE: Police have now arrested 21-year-old Pernell Antwon Robertson who has been accused of stabbing 19-year-old Taiwo Douglas.

Officials in Garner North Carolina took Robertson into custody on March 25th. 

He has been charged with one count of first degree murder and use of a knife in the commission of a felony.

Newport News, Va. - A 19-year-old died after police say he was stabbed in the parking lot of Newsome Park Elementary School on Wednesday.

They say calls came in at  4 p.m. about a stabbing in the 4200 block of Marshall Avenue.

The victim has been identified as Taiwo Douglas of the 2600 block of Roanoke Avenue in Newport News.

Once on the scene, police found Douglas  in the back of the school near the playground. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:47 p.m.

Police say Douglas  and two others were walking through the playground cutting through the area when they bumped into someone else and words were exchanged. Douglas was stabbed at some point and later died from his injuries.
