Virginia Beach, Va. – Folks who participated in Virginia Beach’s Dirty Dash Run on Sunday reported developing a rash on their bodies.

NewsChannel 3 has learned of one runner who was diagnosed with chiggers.

The organizers of the event say they do not know the cause of the rash, but they are staying in touch with those affected and the venue to figure out what may have caused it.

They released the following statement today:

We had a very positive response to our first Dirty Dash event in Virginia Beach on Sunday. We appreciate the support of all of our runners. A few people contacted us after the race saying they developed a rash. While we do not know the cause of the rash, the health and safety of our participants is our top concern. We’re staying in touch with participants and checking in with the venue to see if we can figure out the cause. We apologize, and we will do all we can to ensure safety at our Virginia Beach event.
