Chesapeake, Va. – A woman and child are now without a home after a fire damaged their duplex in the South Norfolk section of Chesapeake this afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the scene in the 1100 block of Commerce Avenue at 12:45 p.m.

Crews arrived and found smoke coming from a one-story duplex. Firefighters had the fire under control at 1:00 p.m., officials say. Fire damage was contained to the kitchen, but the home suffered smoke damage throughout.

The cause of the fire appears to be cooking related, officials say.

No injuries have been reported. The displaced occupants have made arrangements to stay with family members.
