Man killed by train after crashing pickup truck in York County

York County, Va. – A man is dead after he crashed his 2001 Ford pickup truck into a ditch in York County, then was hit by a train as he climbed out of the wreck.

Two children, ages 2 and 6, were also inside the pickup and suffered non-life threatening injuries.

28-year-old Jose A. Calderin Ayala ran off the road, struck a ditch and overturned around 11:57pm Friday night, according to Virginia State Police.

The accident happened on westbound Route 60, west of Busch Service Road in York County.

Mr. Ayala exited the vehicle and was then struck by a CSX train.
He died at the scene.

It currently is unknown if alcohol played a factor in the accident. Mr. Ayala was not wearing his seat belt.
