Update: Suffolk police officer hit by car identified

Update: The Suffolk police officer hit by a car Saturday  has been identified as Detective Sergey Solodyankin, 28. He remains hospitalized at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in fair condition.

Suffolk, Va. - A Suffolk police officer was seriously injured when he was struck by a car while directing traffic Saturday afternoon.

The incident occurred at 12:03 p.m. while the officer was directing traffic at the intersection of North Main Street and Prentis Street.

The officer was treated at the scene by Suffolk Fire & Rescue personnel and transported to Sentara Obici Hospital where he was then airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

The name of the Officer is not being released at this time.

The car was a 4-door Infiniti, police say.  The accident remains under investigation.
