Right now, federal energy assistance funds are available under LIHEAP or the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.
The program provides assistance to low and fixed-income residents, including senior citizens.
This year, the minimum benefit in Virginia will be approximately $187; and in North Carolina the minimum benefit will be approximately $200 minimum, which covered only a portion of the household energy bills.
