Norfolk, Va. – Tidewater Community College’s Norfolk campus is closed today until 5 p.m. due to a power outage in the downtown Norfolk area, according to a school official.

It happened at 12:52 p.m. A cable failed between Harborplace and the federal building, according to Bonita Harris of Dominion Virginia Power. Approximately 473 customers were left without power in the downtown Norfolk area.

Customers affected included Town Point Park, Waterside, the federal building, the Spirit of Norfolk, and the World Trade Center, Harris says. Crews were able to incrementally restore power; the last customers had the lights back on at 2:13 p.m.

This is one of the same circuits that was affected during Sunday night’s power outage, according to Harris. It’s possible when crews were making repairs and moving cables around, one was damaged that affected the same circuit. Dominion crews are now inspecting to find out what the problem is and are making permanent repairs. In the meantime, they have rerouted power to another source.
