Turkeys escape after truck headed for Butterball Turkey Plant overturns in North Carolina

Posted

DUPLIN COUNTY, N.C. – Many turkeys “eluded the chopping block” when a tractor-trailer hauling live ones overturned in Duplin County Wednesday evening.

Trooper J.D. Duff told WITNthat 59-year-old Tommy Williams was driving on Garner Chapel Road when he took a curve too quickly near Whitfield Road.

The driver was not injured.

Investigators say crews were out overnight, trying to catch some of the turkeys that escaped the truck. The truck was headed to Butterball Turkey Plant, about four miles away from the wreck.

Williams is not facing any charges at this time.
