Posted

Norfolk, Va. – An apartment in Park Place was damaged in a fire Saturday afternoon.

According to Battalion Chief Julian Williamson, firefighters were called to an apartment building on 34th St. around 2:10 p.m.

When firefighters got there four minutes later, they could see smoke coming from the second floor of the apartment building, which has 8 units.

The people inside the apartment building had already gotten out of the building safely.

Firefighters found the fire inside the kitchen of one of the apartments and got it under control by 2:30.

According to Williamson, working smoke alarms inside the apartment and the quick response from firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to other units.

No one was injured.  The apartment where the fire started is uninhabitable at this time.

The cause of the fire was ruled accidental.
