Portsmouth, Va. – A 32-year-old man is dead after police say he was fatally shot on Queen Street in Portsmouth over the weekend.
Calls came in to emergency officials at 9:44 a.m. about the incident. When they arrived on the scene, they found Melvin Brown who had been shot several times in the upper body.
He was taken to Sentara Norfolk General where he later died.
They’ve now located 33-year-old Lawrence L. Gordon, Jr., who has been named as a suspect in this case. He has been charged with murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
He was arrested in North Carolina on unrelated charges. He is now in custody and awaiting extradition back to Virginia to face charges for the murder of Brown.
