Williamsburg, Va. - James City County Police are still investigating the murder of 26-year-old Tyler Cole.  Cole was shot and crashed his vehicle into a Williamsburg home on Friday, November 7th. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The shooting and crash happened in Ironbound Square Park on Carriage Road around 8:12 p.m.

Police responding to a report of shots fired found Cole in his car, which was inside the back of the home. The resident of the home was awakened by the shots and crash, but was unhurt.

Cole was taken to Sentara Williamsburg Regional Hospital and was later pronounced dead.

For Whitney Mason, the death of her friend is still hard to believe.

"He'd give you the shirt off his back, kind-hearted," Mason said, describing Tyler.

She was driving home from work when she came upon the scene, but didn't know it was her friend until later.

"I saw the ambulance when it went off.  I never knew it was Tyler in there."

Mason said Cole had two young kids.

Court documents show that police took a GPS and cell phone from which a call was made before shots were fired. Police say they believe he was at the park to meet someone.

According to court documents, Cole has been arrested for drug charges before. In 2012, He was actually sentenced to 20 years in prison but 19 of those years were suspended. Police wouldn't say if they believe this was drug related.
