Newport News woman injured in Lynchburg train accident

Lynchburg, Va. – A man was killed and a Newport News woman injured when they were hit by a train Saturday in Lynchburg.

It happened at Riverside Park around 4:30 p.m.

Police say the man and woman were on the train trestle when they were hit by an oncoming train.

One of the victims was identified as Victoria Bridges, 21, of Newport News, Va.  Bridges was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital. She is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The other victim was Jonathan Gregoire, 21, of Wilbraham, Ma.  He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel.

Investigating officials do not suspect any foul play was involved.  Lynchburg Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is currently conducting the investigation.
