Newport News, Va. – A 35-year-old Newport News woman was arrested and charged last week after allegedly stealing several rings from a deceased woman and pawning them.
On September 18th, the victim’s son reported to police that three rings belonging to his mother were missing when he came to secure her belongings after her death.
An employee advised that another employee, 35-year-old Jamie Spanger, had gone to a pawn shop a few days after the victim’s death.
When she was questioned, Spangler admitted to having the rings and returned them. Further investigation revealed that Spangler had pawned the rings on September 16th, but had returned on the 19th and bought the rings back.
Spangler is charged with Grand Larceny and Larceny with Intent to Sell. She was arrested on November 3rd and has since been released from the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
