Virginia Beach, Va. – A sailboat struck the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel shortly before 5 a.m. Thursday morning, according to Chief Spencer.
The boat hit the southbound span, just after the first tunnel.
The operator was not injured, but his mast got ripped off, officials say.
The bridge did not receive any structural damage. Bridge operations were not affected.
The Coast Guard also responded to the incident.
