Newport News man arrested after fight with girlfriend

Newport News, Va. – A 54-year-old Newport News man was arrested early Friday morning after a reported altercation with his girlfriend.

Newport News Police say they responded to the 500 block of Randolph Road to a report of a stabbing just after midnight.

The victim, a 47-year-old woman, told officers that she and her boyfriend got into an argument that became physical. The suspect, Garry Antonio Majette, allegedly began hitting and choking the victim. The victim also reported that she was cut in the hand with a knife as she tried to get away.

Both the victim and the suspect were transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Majette was charged with one count of strangulation and two counts of malicious wounding and placed in the Newport News City Jail.
