Wilmington, NC – A woman is recovering tonight after officials say a motorboat ran aground east of Cedar Island on Tuesday.
The Coast Guard medevaced the woman after getting a mayday call from the person driving the boat at around 4 p.m.
The driver told officials the 34-year-old woman injured her back and arms during the grounding.
A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was on the scene at 6 p.m. and took the woman and her boyfriend to the Michael J. Smith Airfield in Beaufort. She was then taken to a local EMS and then to the hospital for treatment.
The boat’s driver stayed behind to refloat the boat with the help of TowBoat U.S.
