Virginia Beach, Va. – State Police closed the eastbound ramp from I-64 to Indian River Road for several hours Sunday morning after a fatal accident following a police chase.
A state trooper initially observed a 2013 Toyota Camry traveling over 100mph on I-64 East at the I-264 interchange.
The driver, 25-year-old Sherman Rodney Brown of Norfolk, initially pulled over then took off at a high rate of speed.
Brown attempted to take the Eastbound I-64 Indian River Road exit but lost control, ran off the road and struck a tree. Brown died in the accident.
Mr. Brown was not wearing his safety belt at the time of the accident and alcohol did not play a factor.
The EB I-64 ramp to Indian River Road was shut down from 3:28am until 7:35am.
