Virginia Beach, Va. - A teen has been charged with murder in the shooting death of a Virginia Beach man.
On Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at approximately 9:51 p.m., Virginia Beach Police and Emergency Medical Services were called to a report of a gunshot wound in the 400 block of Peregrine Street, in the Northridge area of Virginia Beach, police tell NewsChannel 3.
Officers arrived to find a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim has been identified as 41-year-old Mariano Mosely Lacerna of the 400 block of Peregrine Street in Virginia Beach. Neighbors tell NewsChannel 3 the shooting happened inside his house and his young daughter was home at the time.
"Just sad to see something like that go on. Another little daughter missing her father for Christmas time. It makes no sense," said Mike Nash, a neighbor. "It shouldn't have happened the way it happened, but in this neighborhood, you never know what to expect."
The suspect was located a short distance from the scene, police say.
The suspect, a 17-year-old from Virginia Beach, was taken into custody and has been charged with Murder and the Use of a Firearm.
He is being held in the Virginia Beach Juvenile Detention Center. A judge will rule whether to charge him as an adult at a hearing next month.
This case remains under investigation.
