Hampton, Va. - "It’s hard to see your child in this kind of condition.”
That’s how long 27-year-old Dominque Jordan has been fighting for her life in the burn unit at Sentara in Norfolk. Nearly 80 percent of her body was burned in a house fire last month, and since then, her family says they've been right there day in and day out.
"It’s not an easy task,” says Jordan’s father, William.
“Sitting, waiting and praying for a full recovery that still isn't promised. It’s still kind of a wait and see game,” says William.
William Jordan says his daughter has had five surgeries and another scheduled for this weekend.
"She’s still not quite out the woods yet,” says William.
He says she is making small progress. But still he says it's hard. This is the longest he's gone without having a conversation with his baby girl.
The holiday season has not been the same for this family.
The family even spent Thanksgiving in the hospital. We took action to try and make their wait that day a little better. We surprised them with a meal to enjoy just down the hall from Dominique.
Now with Christmas right around the corner, William says he won't be the same either. It’s the first time in 27 years he’s spent the holidays without his daughter.
"We're going try and make it as normal as possible, but it’s not going be quite the same without her."
But he says they still have a reason to be thankful this holiday season. "She’s alive and that's something we have to be thankful for."
