Newport News, Va. – A Newport News Police officer discovered a 13-year-old boy with a gunshot wound while on patrol Sunday evening.
The officer was patrolling the area of Jefferson Avenue and Hampton Avenue when he came upon the boy around 5:15 p.m.
The officer immediately called for medics to respond to the scene. Medics transported the boy to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Preliminary investigation determined that the shooting took place in the area of Madison Avenue and 20th street.
Officers were given a description of the suspect’s vehicle, which is described as a gray or silver 4-door Honda Civic. There is no description of the occupants of the vehicle at this time.
