Elizabeth City, NC – A man has been charged after authorities in Elizabeth City say he hit a man with his vehicle at the Bojangles restaurant on Ehringhaus Street.
When officers arrived, they found the victim, Dominque Taylor. During their investigation, they found structural damage to the building. The driver is accused of hitting the building when he hit Taylor during an altercation.
They say the man who was driving a Burgundy Moutaineer pinned Taylor between the building with his vehicle when he was trying to run away.
Officials say Taylor had marijuana on him and he was charged with possession.
Police later found the vehicle at Hickory Village Mobile Home Park. They also located the driver, Brian Harris who admitted to trying to hit Taylor and also told them it was a drug deal gone bad. He says he was threatened with a gun.
Harris told police he was going to meet Taylor at Bojangles to buy marijuana. He says Taylor and another person got into his vehicle and robbed him. Police say they never found a gun, but they were able to find a .45 clip and other evidence.
Taylor suffered a broken hip.
Harris has been charged with assault with the intent to kill and his bond has been set at $30, 000 and his first court appearance will be on Friday.
