Officer spots teen putting on mask, arrests him after he robs Family Dollar store

Newport News, Va. – A 17-year-old Newport News teen did not get very far after robbing the Family Dollar in the 6000 block of Jefferson Ave. on Tuesday.

At approximately 8:43 p.m. a Newport News Police Officer on patrol observed the teen putting a mask on outside of the store and notified dispatch of a suspected robbery in progress.

The boy was taken into custody as he left the building, and an undisclosed amount of money taken during the robbery was also recovered.

The teen was charged with robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and wearing a mask in public.
