Newport News man dies from wounds suffered in December shooting

Newport News, Va. – A man has died after being shot in Newport News back in December, police tell NewsChannel 3.

At approximately 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2014, Police Communications received a call reporting a shooting at 12th Street and Ivy Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found a 31-year-old Newport News man lying in the roadway in the 600 block of 12th Street. He had been shot in the hip and was transported by medics to an area hospital with what was originally described as a non-life threatening injury, police say.

On Monday, January 5, 2015, the victim, Alton Gregory Williams, 31, of the 700 block of 19th Street in Newport News, died at the hospital.

This case remains under investigation.

There is no suspect information to release at this time, according to police.
