UPDATE: Power restored to thousands after downed wire causes outages in Portsmouth

UPDATE: Power has been restored to all customers that were affected by the downed wire that caused the outage.  Everyone was back on by 2:30am Sunday.  Virginia Dominion Power does not have a cause as of right now that caused the wire to go down.

Update: As of 11:40 p.m. Saturday, about 1,800 people are still without power.

Portsmouth, Va. – More than 2,200 people are without power in Portsmouth.

At one point around 10:30 p.m.,  more than 4,000 customers were in the dark.

The outages are being reported in the Truxtun and George Washington areas of the city.

NewsChannel 3 is still working to get information about what caused the outage and when power might be restored.
