Norfolk Police say they were called to the residence on Greenplain Road around 8:30 p.m. in reference to an assault.

When police arrived, they found a 30-year-old woman suffering from severe burns on her abdomen.

Court records reveal that the woman told police that her husband, Michael Howard Jr., allegedly sprayed her with lighter fluid and lit her on fire during a dispute.

After putting out the flames, the woman was able to leave the residence and call police from a neighbor’s residence.

Howard was arrested that evening and charged with malicious wounding.

His wife was taken to Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital for treatment of burn wounds to her torso.

Howard is now out of jail and expected to be back in court on March 16th.
