Newport News, Va. – Crews put out flames inside of a Newport News home on Wednesday morning.

This happened in the 1200 block of 26th Street.  Officials say this is the second fire in this neighborhood at a vacant home within the last 24 hours. The fire marshal says it’s too early to tell if they are related.

The fire started at 1:09 a.m. and when units arrived, they saw smoke and flames coming from the second floor.

Firefighters were able to get into the home and they had the fire under control by 1:53 a.m.

Crews say the house has been vacant for some time now.

A resident in the home next to it was taken out because of smoke concerns. The neighbor’s home was not damaged.

If you know anything about either fire, please call the Newport News Fire Department at 757-926-8404.
