Virginia Beach, Va. - Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred early Friday morning on Shore Drive near First Landing State Park.
The accident happened around 2:35 a.m.
Investigators say a 2004 Volvo S-40 station wagon was driving east in the 2400 block of Shore Drive approaching the west gate of Fort Story nearing a right curve in the road.
The vehicle continued driving straight into the median and hit two trees.
The driver of the vehicle, 31-year-old Meaghan Elizabeth Darling, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passenger was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.
Police say alcohol has been determined to be a factor in the crash.
