Update: Third person charged with animal cruelty in Virginia Beach

UPDATE: A third person has been charged in the case. 24-year-old Jerome Vincent Tucker of Virginia Beach has been charged with two counts of Misdemeanor Animal Cruelty and released on bond. 

The petition for ownership hearing related to the pit type dog was heard on Monday and the dog was awarded to Animal Control. The hearing for the husky was continued until February 23rd. The husky will stay in Animal Control’s custody and care until the hearing date.

Virginia Beach, Va. - A man and woman face animal cruelty charges in Virginia Beach after their dogs were brought to a shelter on Saturday.

The person who brought the dogs in to the Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center on Birdneck Road claimed to have found them as strays.

An Animal Control Officer opened an investigation due to the condition the dogs, a husky and a pit type dog, were in. Both dogs were severely emaciated.

During the investigation the owners were identified and charged.

23-year-old Jaquelin Omar Hernandez of Virginia Beach was charged with two counts of Misdemeanor Animal Cruelty, one count of Misdemeanor Obstructing Justice and released on bond.

23-year-old Michael Gee Smith-Ingram was charged with two counts of Misdemeanor Animal Cruelty and released on bond.

A petition for ownership was filed with the courts with a hearing scheduled for January 26, 2015.
