Suffolk jail officer arrested for smuggling pot to an inmate

Suffolk, Va. – A jail officer at Western Tidewater Regional Jail was arrested Tuesday evening after it was discovered he had been smuggling marijuana to an inmate.

Michael Williams was arrested and charged with Accommodation/Distribution of Marijuana to an Inmate, according to the Superintendent of the Western Tidewater Regional Jail.

The Superintendent reporters that staff at the jail received information on Tuesday about the smuggling. Once the information was verified, the Suffolk Police Department was notified.

Williams has been released on a $5,000 bond.
