Portsmouth, Va. – A woman was transported to a hospital from a cruise ship on Thursday after experiencing complications due to diabetes. The U.S. Coast Guard medevaced the woman approximately 220 miles southeast of Portsmouth.
At around 11:45 a.m., watchstanders at the Coast Guard 5th District command center in Portsmouth received a call from the Norwegian Gem cruise ship requesting care for the ailing woman.
The 66-year-old woman was hoisted into the helicopter at 2:20 p.m. and taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk where she was last reported to be stable.
