Norfolk, Va. – A man has died after being hit by a car on Tidewater Drive this morning.
It happened shortly after 5:20 a.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 in the 5600 block of Tidewater Drive.

The victim has been identified as 62-year-old Gary W. Bess, Sr. of the 5600 block of Tidewater Drive. Police say he was walking in the area of Tidewater Drive and Cromwell Drive, when he was hit by a pickup truck.
The victim was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he died as a result of his injuries, police say.
Police say a man driving a Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling northbound in the 3600 block of Tidewater Drive, through a green light, when the vehicle hit Bess, who was inside the crosswalk.
The results of the investigation will be turned over to the Commonwealth’s Attorney Office for review, and consideration for charges, police say.
Tidewater Drive was temporarily closed northbound between Cromwell Drive and Norview Avenue.
